The first day (Friday) was only Margot and Cole scenes, as there are a good amount in the classroom that establish the friendship between their characters. It was great working with Elizabeth and Steve to build this relationship after working so much on the middle and end of it; it feels like there was already a foundation with which to work. Saturday was the craziest day, as it was the day that involved extras in every scene and also displayed all of Cole's teaching moments. BIG thanks to Lauren, Jaclyn, Daisy, Georgia, Lucas, Pat, and everyone on the crew that doubled as extras as well. Without you guys it wouldn't have looked as good as it did! Sunday was a nice breather, as we just had a half-day of filming, but did some important scenes. We shot the equation scene with Phil and Cole, the discovery scene with Allison, Cole, and Margot, and a few other things that are pretty integral to the film itself, and benefited from being on the separate day. We finished up this evening and went out for dinner for our PM Nugent Cantileno's birthday- and maybe it was also a bit of a victory gala as well, after doing all of this! Every single person on the crew contributed an important part to making this incredibly complicated weekend work, and of course the actors were absolutely accommodating as well, and totally at their best. And speaking of actors, sadly both Lauren Ashleigh (Lauren) and Lindsay Hicks (Allison) wrapped their scenes this weekend, and are done shooting on 'U&T'. It'll be sad not having them on set, as both brought special kinds of energy to every shoot. Lauren is an absolute sweetheart and totally easygoing with everything, as well as being fantastic to direct! And Lindsay is so fun, energetic, and committed as well, that it makes shoots just that much easier. They can definitely rest assured that they put in some terrific work.
The other news I can think of for the film is in regards to soundtrack. We totally finalized the rights for "Earth Angel", and by reaching out to some bands' management, were so far able to secure festival rights for the songs "Red Hands" by The Dear Hunter and "16, Maybe Less" by Iron & Wine with Calexico- gratis. Awesome when some big names help out student productions pretty much out of the goodness of their hearts.
We have a small break with 'U&T' until March 24-25th, during which is Spring Break, and also, Nugent is shooting his own thesis film, 'Tilt of a Rose'. I was able to be on set for initial setups and the first day of shooting, and it looks fantastic so far. I can't wait to see the rest of the footage, it's really an ambitious project.
